Torah MiTzion Sydney was founded in 2010, and the shlichim are known colloquially by the community as “Hesder Boys”.
During the day, the Shlichim are based in Moriah College as a part of the informal education department, under the direction of Rabbi Benji Levy – Dean of Jewish Life and Learning. The Shlichim run Tefillah workshops, go into Judaic Studies and Hebrew language classes.
In the evenings, the bachurim have chavrutot with community members in the Beit Midrash of the JLC. They also participate in Bondi Mizrachi Synagogue activities, led by the Rosh Kollel, who also serves as the Rav of the Mizrachi Synagogue, and offers a range of Shiurim to the community.
Torah MiTzion Sydney also works closely with Bnei Akiva. The bachurim serve as madrichim in the local Bnei Akiva branch.
Since its founding in 2010, the Sydney Kollel has been led by three Roshei Kollel – Rav Danny and Michelle Eisenberg (2010-2014), Rabbi Shua and Michal Solomon (2015-2016) and Roshei Mishlachat Avichai and Tiferet Berkowitz (2018-2020).
